Crimeboss was developed on (surprise!) a PC. Nothing against the Mac, I’ve just never used one. In case anyone is interested in the sundry details...

Cover Scans

I scanned the actual covers with my trusty Hewlett Packard ScanJet 4c. The scanner gives me a rather large TIFF file, which I crop to size and convert to JPEG using CompuPic (a very handy viewer utility by Photodex). I use CompuPic to make the thumbnails, too. Other than cropping, I don’t make any modifications to the images.

Graphics

All other graphics on Crimeboss were generated using Macromedia Fireworks. Not only did I use it to make graphics, but it also generated the JavaScript for all of my rollovers. I highly recommend Fireworks. It is the biggest time-saver ever.

HTML

Most of this site was originally developed using a plain old HTML text editor, but recently I have begun using Dreamweaver, also by Macromedia. It’s a great tool.

Fonts

The font you see for all the headings and navigation menus is Nicotine by Mr. Chank Diesel. If you like fonts - especially of the retro/funky variety - you owe it to yourself to check out Chank.

Web Hosting

This site is hosted by Pair Networks. If you’re in the market for a web presence provider, I highly recommend these guys. I have used several different hosting services, and Pair has been by far the best.

One of the best things about Pair Networks is that they administer a news server just for their customers (you have to have a password to access it). You can ask questions about anything and get an answer. It’s a great resource. Most hosting companies wouldn’t dare run their own newsgroup because their customers would just use it to complain about them!

Entry Graphic

No, your eyes are not deceiving you: the main graphic on the home page changes daily, thanks to a little Perl script I wrote. As of 11/24/98, there were four different graphics in the “rotation.” Here they are:
